So... I'll be leaving the house soon, and I am stealing the recipes from the family cook book. The five or six that are actually worth the effort, anyway...
(Most of the time, I secretly ignore the recipe and do whatever I feel like. My aunt never seems to realize that the chili is different each time, and in fact sometimes complements the recipe that doesn't, in fact, exist. So these are about the only ones I ever actually use...)
And since my computer has a habit of dying on me when I most want it to live, I'm putting them here for safe keeping. So that in five or six years, when I actually want them, I can get to them.
My apologies to any cookbook author these may have been originally stolen from. Blame my family- they're the ones that copy things out on little notecards and pass them to each other...

No-Bake Cookies
6 tbs cocoa powder
2 cups sugar
1 stick butter
½ cup milk
6 heaping tbs peanut butter
3 ¼ cups oatmeal
Put everything but oatmeal in a pan. Heat until liquid-ish and well-mixed. Add oatmeal and spoon onto wax paper.
Mexican Dip
12 oz cream cheese
12 oz sour cream
1.5 tbs taco seasoning
6 oz taco sauce
1 1/8 cup lettuce
1 cup shredded cheddar
½ tomato, diced
tortilla chips
Mix cream cheese, sour cream, and taco seasoning. Put on a pretty plate. Spread taco sauce on top. Sprinkle on: lettuce, cheddar, and tomato, respectively.
Potato-Pepper Soup
3 medium potatoes, cubed
2 cups vegetable stock or broth
1 each small green, yellow, and red pepper, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
¼ cup butter
¼ cup flour
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
1/8 tsp red pepper
3 cups milk
Boil potatoes and broth. Simmer for 10 minutes. Do Not Drain.
Sauté peppers and the onion in the butter. Mix in the flour, salt, pepper, and red pepper. Add all the milk. Cook and stir until thick and bubbly, and continue for one minute more.
Stir in the potatoes. Heat through.
Easter Egg Bread
6 to 6.5 cups flour
.5 cups sugar
.5 oz active dry yeast
1 to 2 tsp cardamom
1 tsp salt
1 to 1.5 cups milk
6 tbs butter
4 eggs
3 to 6 Easter eggs, beautifully decorated. :)
2 tbs. cold water
Mix 2 cups flour, sugar, yeast, cardamom, salt
In a pan, heat milk and butter to 120°-130°. Add to dry ingredients. Beat until moist.
Add 3 of the eggs; beat until smooth. Stir in enough flour to make a soft dough.
Knead on a floured surface until smooth and elastic (about 7 minutes)
Place in greased bowl. Turn over so that top is also greased.
Cover and leave alone for 45 minutes.
Meanwhile, put a little oil on the pretty eggs.
Punch the dough down, separate into three pieces, make them rope-shaped, and braid them. Make it into a ring and pinch the ends together. Stick the pretty eggs wherever they look good. Cover it and leave it alone for 20 minutes.
Beat the water and the left over egg. Brush onto dough.
Bake at 375° for half an hour or until golden brown. Eat some. Put the rest in the fridge.
Sweet Potatoes
Potatoes:
3 large sweet potatoes
1/3 cup sugar
1 stick butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
Crunch Topping:
1/3 cup melted butter
1/3 cup flour
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
1 tbs. cinnamon
Boil potatoes until tender. Remove skins, being careful not to burn your fingers. Put into bowl and whip until fluffy. Add everything else from the “potatoes” category, and stir some more.
Mix everything in the Crunch Topping together.
Put the potatoes in a casserole dish, top with topping, and bake for 45 minutes at 375°
Spinach and Cheese Quiche
Big bag of spinach
¼ cup mushrooms
¼ cup onions
4-6 eggs
1 tbs butter
2 tbs mayonnaise
2 8oz bags of cheese
1 cup milk
2 pie crusts
Cook spinach until limp. Sauté onions and muchroom.
Mix everything together, adding the spinach, mushroom, and onion last.
Pour into pie crusts and bake 45 minutes to an hour at 350°
