Oct. 26th, 2008 08:58 pmThis NaNo, I decided that what I need is a nice word-count meter to fill in as I go along.
Me: Hey! Wouldn't it be neat if it looked like a bookshelf, and every time I finished 1000 words, I got to color a book.
Me: And it would look nice on the wall.
Me. Heh. An imaginary bookshelf.
Me. Wouldn't it be neat to put a few books that weren't real on it, just to confuse people?
Me: In fact, wouldn't it be neat to fill my imaginary bookshelf with imaginary books?
So. I'm trying to come up with 50 imaginary books to fill my shelf with. It's harder than you might think. And by "imaginary" I mean "Mentioned in books that exist, but never written)
So far, I have:
1. Here Comes a Candle (from The Sandman)
2. The Necronomicon (from HP Lovecraft stuff but not actually written)
3. The Nice And Accurate Profecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch
4. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (Yes, it's been written, but I maintain that the written version is not the full version as mentioned in HP)
5. Shop Gods (as mentioned in one of Sam_Storyteller's fics)
6. Geppetto (in one of Sam_Storyteller's original stories, Jack and Ellis)
7. In the Skin of a Lyon (from Garth Nix's Lirael)
8. The Book of Gramarye (The Dark is Rising series)
9.The Correct Spelling of Every English Word that Ever, Ever Existed (Series of Unfortunate Events)
10. The History of Damar (Robin Mckinley)
11. The Life of Human (Ender's Game series)
12. The Spirit Who Had Half of Everything (Sandman)
13. When Real Things Happen to Imaginary People (Sandman)
14. The Conscience of Sherlock Holmes (Sandman)
15. Flora of Neverland (Sandman)
16. The Man Who Was October (... Sandman again, dangnabit)
17. 17,011 Things a Princess Must Know (Mirrormask)
18. Anyone Can Cook (Ratatoiulle)
19. The Book of Om (Small Gods, Terry Pratchett)
20. Where's My Cow (Terry Pratchett. As with the real FBaWtFT, this has been sort of written but I'm still counting it.)
21. The Book of Night With Moon (which is in a book by the same title, but never actually written. If that makes sense)
22. Inkheart (the book Inkheart that is mentioned in Inkheart, that is. The one that Dustfinger and so on are from.... *Doesn't read kid's books, really. ^_^*)
23. Buttercup's Baby (the sequal to The Princess Bride, which was never written but was joked about in the back of TPB)
... and that's all I can come up with right now. But it's going to be awesome once I finish it.
