Jul. 22nd, 2010 12:48 amI am finally making progress on my Big Bang! 4000 words down, basic outline written!
I actually have lots of time to write, since I totally ignore the professor during lectures and take "notes" furiously. I end up with a lot of pages that start out "Introduction to magnetism and spintronics" and rapidly become: "Lightning crackled at Azula's fingertips as she waited for the door to open."
In other news, Japan is freaking hot. Highs of 95F/35C hot, with nearly 100% humidity and freaking hot sun. Stepping outside is like walking into a bright, humid oven I ended up being in lab alone for three hours yesterday, and was all set to be annoyed with my TA for not showing up, only it turned out he'd passed out from the heat and had to stay inside and drink water for a while before he felt safe going out again. So, yeah.
I have not fainted, but I have felt pretty woozy a couple of times, especially when I was doing field work out in the sun for several hours with no way to get to air conditioning without a long hike. I'm glad to be working in the lab again, where it never gets about 28C/82F (Which feels cold to me now, so I'm going to be absolutely freezing when I get back to Chicago and the AC is on full blast)
Anyway. I'm just glad there are vending machines everywhere with tasty cold beverages.
